Joze School of Dance is run by Jo Sproston and offers high quality and value for money dance classes for the local community at The Ilkley Fitness Centre. The school is affiliated to the International Dance Teachers Association (I.D.T.A) & has a 100% pass rate.

JSD offers:
- a wide selection of dance classes for children and adults from aged 3 years
- regular dance examinations held with the IDTA
- annual dance show at the Kings Hall Theatre in Ilkley
- holiday dance and musical theatre workshops
- no joining or membership fees
- costume hire for £10 an outfit or £2 an accessory
Schools achievements:
- Student Jen Teale gained a First Class Honours BA in Dance Performance at Middlesex University in 2010 & then went on to become a qualified teacher with the I.D.T.A & now runs her own successful dance school in London, 'Ballet North' - www.balletnorth.co.uk
- Performed at Her Majesty's Theatre London, 2011 & 2012
- Has had many students successfully audition for the Northern Ballet Academy, Leeds, 2011 to present
- Has students perform yearly in Northern Ballet's Christmas production of Cinderella - The Grand Theatre, Leeds
- Won best hair & makeup - Dance On Yorkshire 2013
- Won best concept & overall performance - Dance On Yorkshire 2014
- Performed at Tour De France celebrations, Ilkley Hub - 2014
- Had two students Daniel Burgess and Angus Lovell perform in Matthew Bourne's professional tour of 'Lord of the Flies' - Alhambra, Bradford 2014
- Student and Teacher Daniel Hatton successfully auditioned for the prestigious performing arts school - The Urdang Academy, London for a three year degree in Performing Arts - Sept 2015
- Student Camille Ribeiro finishes 6th in her age group in the ballet category with a special commendation in the I.D.T.A Dance Theatre Awards - Feb 2016.
- Student Tara Hunt successfully auditioned for a foundation course in Musical Theatre at SLP Performing Arts College in Garforth - Sept 2016
- Student Camille Ribeiro successfully auditions for 'Paris Opera Ballet' prestigious Summer School - July 2017
- Student Daniel Burgess has been offered a place in the 'Youth Musical Theatre Company' of 2017
- Student Camille Ribeiro successfully auditioned for 'Elmhurst' Ballet School in Birmingham to start September 2018
- Ex Student and Teacher Daniel Hatton successfully auditions for the 30th anniversary cast of the hit musical ‘Starlight Express’, in a purpose built arena in Bochum, Germany - Feb 2018

Mrs Jo Sproston - Principal
Jo is passionate about sharing her love of dance with dancers of all ages and abilities; she believes that dance is not just for dancers but a really good fun way to get fit and stay active and encourages students to be the best that they can be. She runs the school as a family unit regardless of age, gender or ability you will all be part of the same team.

Jo started dancing when she was 4 years old and is an associate member of the International DanceTeachers' Association (I.D.T.A) in Ballet, Modern Jazz and Theatre-Craft. Jo has been running Joze School of Dance in Ilkley since March 2005 and still regularly performs herself.
As a youngster, she caught the 'bug' for choreography aged 14 when she won a gold medal for her
contemporary choreography in 'The Fenland Choreographic Competition' and silver for jazz
and theatre the following year.

Jo first started teaching when she was 15 at her Secondary School, where she won the Dance Award
and prize for service to the school. For several years she was also resident choreographer for
local amateur dramatic society in Cambridgeshire.

In addition to teaching ballet, pointe, jazz, theatre-craft and contemporary classes, Jo also teaches
the N.V.Q. Dance Leadership Level 1 award, and trains student dance teachers through the
associate diploma programme of the IDTA and anatomy diploma. She also has a Y.M.C.A. Fitness
qualification in Exercise to Music.
